Things for kids to do at our lavender farm

I think a lavender farm is actually a great place to bring kids. Lots of open space, an abundance of things to observe with their senses, and it's just as fun for adults. Oh, and children under the age of 12 enter our farm for free!

Here are some of my suggestions for keeping kids busy on the farm (so you have time to relax):

  • 🐝  Look for insects. Can you find a bee, butterfly, ant, moth or grasshopper?
  • 🌱 Gently touch the different plants and then smell your hands. Do you think the plants smell the same or different?
  • 👟 Count how many steps it takes you to walk down an entire row of lavender. How many jumps/hops?
  • 💨 Sit between the rows of lavender + take 3 deep slow breaths. How do you feel after?
  •  🎨 Ask the staff in the shop to use some of the sidewalk chalk.
  • ☁️ Borrow a blanket from the shop and lay between the row of lavender. Are there clouds in the sky? What shapes can you see?
  • 🍪 Enjoy a snack from the concession stand. We have ice cream, popsicles, cookies, chips + rice krispie squares.
  • 🍀 Look in the grass. Can you find a four leaf clover? They’re out there! One of our staff members finds them almost every day.

Here are a few important reminders for for parents, grandparents + guardians who are bringing kiddos to the farm:

  • Children must have adult supervision at all times.
  • Please don't step over the rows of lavender.
  • There are bees on our farm. Instruct kids to be careful when touching plants. Bring appropriate allergy medication for your child.
  • Please ask children not to yell or scream - despite their excitement ;)
  • No visitors should not wander past the tree line towards the private home.
  • No one should be near the solar panel.
  • Any play structures or toys near the house are off limits.
  • Remember to bring sunscreen, hats + water for the kiddos.

I hope to see you + your kiddos in the field.
